Water chemistry - wish it was more stable

Both tanks are continuing to do well without B-Ionic, but my every-other-day dosing of the two Seachem pH/Calcium buffers seems pretty haphazard. Both tanks have high Alkalinity now (14 and 15dKH) and high Calcium (460 and 470ppm), but the livestock seems fine.

The main BTA seems to be moving closer to itself, instead of trying to tear itself in half yet again. In the next few days I'll see what it finally decided upon.

March pictures

  • fts29g-1200

I took a few pictures yesterday, and hope you enjoy them.

This is my 29g, after the bubble tip anemone split. The image looks a little strange, but it gives you a peek none-the-less in the above picture.

This is my 55g. First the left shot, the center, and the right side.

When a frag vanishes - Hurricane Marc strikes

  • maxima-1200

Today I got a PM from a club member asking for a few of my Red Ring Zoas. I told her that I didn't have enough to share at this point, as there are maybe 20 polyps total on the rock. Then it hit me:

WHERE THE HECK ARE THEY?!?!?!

Now the reasonable person would say "oh well, my little reef looks good and if they turn up later that would be nice... I am content with what I have." However, not a zoa-addict like myself, no way!

Necessary Maintenance

  • xenia-1200

Yesterday, I did a 10g water change on the 29g. That's basically a 33% swap.

I cleaned the MaxiJet 1200 to my Remora skimmer on the 29g today. It was so encrusted with coralline that it was almost impossible to pull off the front section where the impellar is located. While I was cleaning, I went ahead and cleaned out the injector in the skimmer itself, and found a snail in the bubble reaction chamber. I gave him a lift to the refugium ;)

Usually warm water temperatures

  • urchin-1200

For the past few days, things have been 'odd' and I couldn't really figure out what was the cause. Both of my tanks were suffering from depressed pH readings, to the point that I became very concerned. pH 8.0 for the high at the peak of the lighting period is not good at all. My zoanthids and bubble tip anemone have looked so much better in the past. Plus the 55g reef has been running hotter and hotter as well!!!! What is the deal?!
