A better way to count bubbles

While visiting Lunchbucket's reef in South Dakota, I noticed his Calcium Reactor bubble counter was moving in slow motion. It was really neat, and later at Goodwin9's home, I got a bottle of the mystery syrup.

I noticed my bubble counter was empty again as of yesterday (it either evaporates or bubbles the liquid up the airline tubing), so I cleaned it well and filled it up with this oil.

How to read Salifert's Nitrate test kit

  • nitrate-header-pic

About a month ago, I discovered at MACNA that I was misreading my nitrate test kit for a very long time. I use Salifert kits. Just in case you use the same kit, let me clarify one important step:

After the test is complete (including the 3 minute wait period), if the solution matches 10 or less on the color chart, hold the beaker up and view the color through the side with the color chart behind the beaker. Whatever that result is, divide by 10. So if it looks like 50ppm, it would be 5ppm.

A new look to an old page

The Reef Parameters page has been updated to match the look of the site, and I changed the layout of the stats themselves. I like the new look because it reminds me of a graph chart.

Regarding the Logo contest, I want to thank everyone that participated. I've got it down to the final two, and will decide shortly. The two I like are #10 and #15 on the lastest contest page posted, the one that had the poll.
