MACNA XIXOne of my favorite booths every year is Dr Mac's booth, or Pacific East
Aquaculture Inc. I really like how he used sand as the substrate in his displays. I know
on Sunday, they were trying to get rid of it, so I'm going to assume some
lucky person is very happy right now. The other tank had white sand. N.O.A.A. Aquatic Ecosystems CaribSea Ross (with the huge smile) is a hardcore Deltec guy, who won a Euro-reef
skimmer. We're still waiting for his conversion. ;) Uberfrags had a nice booth, with shallow tanks. This tank with a dark area is actually a section packed with blue clams.
I've never seen so many in one spot of the same color. Some unusual montipora sp, I think. A closed up Dendrophyllia. It's really a shame that these corals were
closed up because they are very beautiful and spark conversation every
time. A local LFS Finnex Their tank was much prettier than this picture, but check out the lower
right corner with those cute clowns with orange faces. Elos had a nice booth, and some new toys. That guy is Jesse, the U.S.
rep for Elos. Nick was here from Italy as well. I love the clean look of their skimmers. Look at the collection cup. It just sits on an O-ring! The controller has a new plug in module. Now you can use the regular
Elos test kits, but it will measure the results via light and provide
you with the digital results on the controller. No more guessing what
color it really is. The module is about $200. Since you don't need special
test kits, that is a huge perk for those that already own the controller
($1500). Controller software: ![]() Salifert Salifert USA rep Salifert USA rep looking pretty. Resized to reduce blurry shot, but definitely
still usable. Sandy Shoupe, Reefkeeping author R2K is known for their enormous self-cleaning skimmers. Those guys have been busy making stuff for our tanks now. ![]() The
new skimmer is made of pyrex, so you can drop it and it won't break. I
don't recommend dropping a skimmer ever, but they bounced the collection
cup off the floor for me. It is Ozone compatible. The cup has a no-drip feature. Take the red rubber plug, push it onto
the riser in the cup, and carry the cup to the sink without worrying about
spillage. Easy adjustment knob. |
